A Middle-Grade Mystery
When I was a young teen, I discovered the Nancy Drew mystery series by Carolyn Keene. I devoured Keene’s first book, “The Mystery of the Old Clock, first published in 1930, which led to my obsession with mysteries. The thrill wasn’t the strong female protagonist and her goal to fight for justice. It wasn’t how Nancy honed her curiosity and courage amid danger. And it wasn’t the struggle of good versus evil. For me, solving the mystery before the big reveal thrilled me. And that is my wish—for my readers of “Madison is Possibly, Probably, Positively GUILTY!” to consider the clues. Consider the character’s motivations. And consider the mystery itself. Who is stealing Emily’s beloved meatballs? Is it archenemy Madison or someone else?
